Berries are extremely healthy food and loaded with vitamins and minerals. They are delicious to eat fresh. But if you have an overabundance of them, you could preserved them as marmalade.

This recipe is very simple, yet delicious. You could combine any berries you have (Strawberries, Raspberries, blueberries, Currants or etc).

This will make 2 jars of 500 ml jam container.

Ingredients

1 kg Berries
1 tsp Cinnamon Powder
500 g Sugar
1 cup Water

Procedure

Wash the berries and put them into the cooking pot. Add water and sugar. Cook the fruits in medium fire. Let them boil until they become tender, approximately one hour. Then adjust your heat to low. Constantly stir them until the mixture becomes smooth. Add the cinnamon powder. Pour the jam into a sterilize jars while they are still hot. This is to ensure that the jam will not get mold. Then invert the jar to its lid. This technique can further sterilize the lid of the jar through the high temperature of the freshly cooked marmalade. Also avoid headspace in filling your jars, the retained oxygen may allow some mold growth in your processed food.

Tips:

  1. For additional flavor, you can add rum or cinnamon or any flavor you like into the jam before pouring them into your jam container.
  2. If you like to have a fine texture of your jam, you can also strain them into another cooking pot. After straining see to it to let the mixture boil again before canning to avoid spoilage.
