Nowadays, performance expectations in our society (family and work) are very high. Each of us is faced with stress and stress management on a daily basis. Most of us, especially working fathers and mothers, need to be active and use some relaxation techniques to stay in shape every day.

Stress is a natural response to challenges in our lives, but too much stress can have negative effects on our physical and mental health.

The ability to regulate perceived stress and experience relaxation is of great importance for a healthy life.

Relaxation techniques are regenerative measures to cope with stress. Active inhalation and exhalation with gentle physical exercises release blockages in our system, harmonize the organs in our body and relieve muscle tensions. A relaxation exercise focuses solely on ourselves, on positive thoughts and on the present moment. It improves our mindfulness and concentration. The effects are immediate and can be felt in the long term. The relaxation techniques are very practical, the practitioner can decide for himself when, where and how often to practice them.

Progressive Relaxation

Progressive Relaxation is based on the assumption that there are interactions between peripheral muscular tensions and central nervous mental tensions.

The founder of the method, Edmund Jacobson, assumed the following
the following interrelationships:
– On the one hand, mental processes can influence the muscular system and the autonomic nervous system.
– On the other hand, changes in muscle tension influence central mental processes.

In Progressive Relaxation, various muscle groups of the body are tensed and relaxed again. The body consider the tensing and relaxing of muscle systematically as a pleasant exercise. Thus the body and mind are relaxed right away after the progressive muscle training.
