The celebration of St. Martin’s Day is one of the most awaited celebration for many children every November in Germany.
St. Martin was a brave and helpful roman soldier.
The Saint is known for cutting his cloak in half in order to share it with the beggar. The Beggar appeared to him in a dream-vision and revealed himself to be Christ.
He was a good example for braveness and kindness to the young children.
During the celebration, the children are having lantern parade and sing the famous St. Martin’s song. After the parade, there is usually a giant pretzel to be shared with others.
During this Corona Pandemie, big gatherings to celebrate St. Martin’s Day is not possible.
Esther loves St. Martin. So we decided to have a walk with her lantern around our block. Esther sang joyfully St. Martin’s song. I baked the traditional pretzel and we shared it with warm punch.
We were thankful for the nice walk and the simple pretzel dinner.
