Since I was a kid, I am always fascinated by our nature.

Nature is so marvelous. For example, it is really interesting to observe how the sun, the soil, and the rain, a small seed grow to a tree and bring flowers, fruits, and shelter to other living things.

My heart sinks seeing the reality that we are so ignorant in dealing with our mother nature. For example, our human activities such as deforestation, pollution, overconsumption, and exploitation are very alarming these causes changes in our nature that endangers our existence on this earth.

We need a healthy planet to continue to evolve and we must live in harmony with nature. In my own little way, I’m trying to control my activities to help preserve our nature. For instance, avoiding the use of plastics, minimizing driving a car, recycling stuffs and cultivating an organic garden.

I am a member of a garden club here in our place in Germany. Our Garden area is situated in an idyllic place near a forest. In our club, we have different programs that help support the conservation of our nature, for example, a program for insect protection (Bees and Butterflies).

In my garden, I do have some fruit trees, flower-, herbs- and vegetable- garden and meadows or a playground for kids. My garden is purely organic, no pesticides, no herbicides, no artificial fertilizer, zero chemical and so on. I’m practicing natural methods to grow my plants.

It was still winter but the sun was shining just like in summer. After the office, I decided to visit my garden. It was only the middle of February but lotus flowers already coming out, violet, yellow, and white. And even my winter vegetables were growing very well.

My daughter playfully helped me to harvest our vegetables. She even noticed that there were already some bees zooming around. With excitement and joy, I continued my garden work, while my 4-year-old daughter was busy baking her sand cake, specially created for the mommy.

I tried to free the soil from dried leaves and work on my compost. I also tried to re-organize my herbs corner. I planned to expand my herb-collections, I made intensive research about herbs during winter and I would try to cultivate more of them this year. I supposed they would be a unique idea as a special present to someone.

Back home, I shared some of our harvest to a neighbor. This sharing doubles the joy that I have from my garden.

My husband and my kid helped me in the kitchen to prepare our dinner. We cooked a Filipino soup, we called it Tinola. It is a soup with organic chicken and vegetables coming fresh from our garden.

We were all satisfied and thankful for having the opportunity of savoring our food fresh from our own garden free from chemicals and needs no transport and no plastic packagings.

How you choose to live today will determine your future. Below is a proverb from the Cree tribe of Indiana.

“When the Last Tree Is Cut Down, the Last Fish Eaten,
and the Last Stream Poisoned,
You Will Realize That You Cannot Eat Money”
Indiana Cree Proverb
