24/7 we are surrounded by equipment and gadgets that emit electromagnetic radiation (EMR).

Everywhere we see power lines and telecommunication towers. Most households are equipped with electrical wirings, and electrical appliances such as television, microwave oven, shavers, hairdryers and more. Most of us at home and at the workplace have computer, laptop , tablet, smartphone, cellphone, cordless telephone and other more devices that emit electromagnetic radiation. Today more than half of the population in the world own mobile phones or smartphones. Smartphones have become a vital part of our lives and we carry them in our pocket every day.

Everytime and everywhere we are exposed to EMR. Do we really know, how these equipment and devices may affect our health in the long run?

What is Electromagnetic-Hypersensitivity (EHS) or Microwave Syndrome?

Electromagnetic hypersensitivity or microwave syndrome could be a possible health risk of our generation. It is caused by exposure to devices that emits EMR that negatively affects our body.

The issue of EMR and its harmful effects on living organisms is very controversial. In 1932 there was already a study regarding how electromagnetic radiation harms our health. During this time it was called Microwave Syndrome. Dr. Wolf Bergmann gives an overview and lists of alarming studies or publications regarding the harmful effects of microwaves on our human health.

Symptoms

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified radio frequency electromagnetic radiation as Group 2B – possibly carcinogenic. This group contains possible carcinogens such as lead, DDT, and styrene. Here are two resources from WHO regarding this topic, IARC classifies Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans, Troubled with Cellphone Radiation Standard.

The symptoms of EHS is not only seen physically but as well as psychologically. Here are some of them.

  • Headaches
  • Allergies
  • Vision/ Eye Problems
  • Neurovegetative Disorders
  • Daytime Drowsiness
  • Performance Deficits
  • Insomnia
  • Tinnitus or Noise In Ear
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Hyperactivity (obviously seen in children cases)
  • Anxiety
  • Concentration Disorder
  • Poor Memory
  • Depression
  • Cardiovascular Disorders

Conclusion and Actions

Since this subject is extremely controversial and our health is the most important thing that we have, I handle this issue with the following actions:

  1. Deactivate my wireless communication connections at home.
  2. No EMR emitting devices in sleeping room
  3. Turn-off my cellphone if not in used.
  4. Use wired connection for my laptop in the office as possible.
  5. For my 4 year old girl, maximum of 20 minutes per day exposure to EMF related gadgets.
  6. Go outdoor with the nature instead of hanging on in the City, Malls or Cafe’s.

We also need to consider that every person has a different sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation, the duration of exposure and the intensity of radio frequency may also play an important role in how it may affect a body.

Stay Safe and share this awareness to your love ones.
