GINGER ROOT

Ginger or ginger root (Zingiber officinale ) is a flowering plant that originated in Southeast Asia. It belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, a rhizome plant. It tastes a bit spicy, warm, and sharp. It smells peppery sharp, pungent, aromatic, and warm, sometimes it smells like a bit of lemon.

Ginger is loaded with nutrients and bioactive compounds that have powerful benefits for your body and brain. It is now considered as one of the very few superfoods.

The unique fragrance and flavor of ginger come from its natural oil called gingerol. It is the main bioactive compound in ginger. Gingerol has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

According to research, here are some of the well-documented medicinal properties of ginger root:

  • Anti-nausea, especially for morning sickness
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-oxidant

  • Improves blood sugar levels

  • Eases menstrual pain
  • Lowers Cholesterol
  • Anti-cancer
  • Cognitive benefits, potential for preventing Alzheimer’s

LEMON

Lemons (Citrus limon) are among the world’s most popular citrus fruits. They grow on lemon trees. And the taste is very sour and usually not eaten as a whole fruit. Instead, they are garnished in food and the juice is used to prepare sour flavored drinks.

Lemons contain very little fat and protein. They consist mainly of carbohydrates (10%) and water (90%). The carbohydrates in lemons are primarily composed of fibers, which is called pectin. Pectin can lower blood sugar levels by slowing down the digestion of sugar and starch.

Lemons are very rich in vitamin C. In addition, they’re a decent source of potassium and vitamin B6 which help convert food into energy. Eating lemons enhance immune system function, may lower your risk of heart disease, cancer, and kidney stones.

HONEY BEE

The Food Drugs Authority (FDA) defines honey as, “a thick, sweet, syrupy substance that bees make as food from the nectar of flowers and store in honeycombs.”

This thick liquid is compact with a number of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are beneficial for our health. Since ancient times until now we treasure the health benefits of honey.

Honey is used in many ways: for food, cosmetics, and even as natural remedies for sicknesses and diseases. See my article regarding honey bees.
